A Few of Our Favorite Things

We often hear our students say things that make us stop, think, and laugh. We will collect and share with you some of the better sayings that we hear during the day.

From the Week of October 10, 2011

Each morning at Covenant, teachers and students begin with reading the Word of God and prayer. Then each class recites the Pledge of Allegiance. The first and second grade classes have recently begun singing God Bless America as well. Listen to them here. Do you remember how difficult it was at that age not to giggle when you knew you were being recorded?

Huh?

As students were leaving to go home at the end of classes today, I said to a couple of the elementary students, "Boy, tomorrow is your field trip to the San Diego Zoo! What are you going to bring back for me?"

One student said, "Nothing."

"I've always wanted a gnu. Would you bring me back a gnu?" I responded.

"What's a gnu?" the student asked.

"I don't know. What's a gnu with you?" I asked.

I never have a camera when I need one. The look on this child's face could be placed next to the definition of "Huh?"

Look, But Don't See

sThe kindergarten class was taking their Bible test on Friday, and they were allowed to draw a picture with their answer. One student said to the another, "Look at the picture I drew. But, I don't want you to see my answer, so only use one eye, ok?

We're Here to Help!

As the students were returning to their classroom from the playground, one elementary student offered to help his classmates with a problem they were having. As they were passing the open door of my classroom, I overheard the student tell the others, "Well, if you have a problem that you can't solve, just tell me. I am very smart, and I will tell you what to do."

Yes Bobby, It Is Awesome!

The fifth and sixth grade students are studying the life of Jesus in their Bible class. The lesson for the day was about Jesus healing the son of a man who traveled some distance to ask for Jesus' help. Bobby was amazed that Jesus healed the boy without seeing him or being near him. Jesus spoke, and the boy was healed. Bobby's reaction? "That's awesome!"

Yes it is, Bobby. And thank you for reminding me of how awesome Jesus is.

Kindergarten Wisdom

"My mommy is a queen!"

"What is it that makes your mommy a queen?"

"My mommy is a queen because she is my mommy."

Overheard in Kindergarten

"My throat is sore, and I sound like a chipmunk."

What Is That Sound?

Student: "I like Mr. McManus's shoes."

Teacher: "Oh, why is that?"

Student: "Because I can hear him coming."
